EMUG Meeting

1st meeting of the ENDLESS Metal User Group (EMUG)

By the end of the CIG ENDLESS Metal project, the three tools Pleco, Discovery Mat and MiCorr had been widely distributed throughout the EU and beyond. Some users have purchased the hardware needed to use Pleco and Discovery Mat and others have started to enrich the MiCorr databases. While knowledge has been transferred, the tools continue to evolve and regular updates are therefore necessary. In addition, new areas of application remain unofficial for the time being, due to a lack of communication. Our aim is to keep the user community informed of these new developments.

The first ENDLESS Metal User Group (EMUG) meeting was held on 20 June 2024, online. The programme is provided below. After some technical information on the evolution of the tools by C. Degrigny, Ida Holden Langemark and Omid Oudbashi showed how the MiCorr application contributed to the diagnosis of the objects studied by themselves. Kate Jennings, who is the only user to have built Pleco from scratch from the data made available on the tool's website, shared her experience and advice. Eva Menart & Nemeček Nataša then presented an interesting application of Pleco on a heavily tarnished baroque monstrance, while Géraldine Aubert presented the impressive work carried out on the composite coronation mantle of King Charles X, where the metal decorations were also heavily tarnished.

The presentations were very well received and the participants agreed to meet again in December 2024. The meeting is fairly informal. Interested participants should contact Christian.degrigny@he-arc.ch.
